Independent Skill Development is one period a day that your child will be improving his/her Math, Reading, and Social Studies skills on the computer. This class gives students the opportunity to practice their skills individually and at their own pace. Students will receive a grade for this class and should stay on track with their given assignments.
Twice a week, students will have the opportunity to improve their knowledge of vocabulary words and skills. To do so, we use a program called Spelling City. Students will have two full periods a week to complete the assignments on Spelling City. At the end of the week, students are asked to take a vocabulary quiz over these words. This quiz will be taken for a grade and will be added to students' final total grade in ISD. Students have the opportunity to retake these quizzes as many times as they need to and are encouraged to do so until they are satisfied with their grade. If students are absent for any reason, they will have until the following Monday to make up the Spelling City assignments for that week.
Students can access Spelling City by simply going to SpellingCity.com and signing in using their given username and password. If for some reason students are not finishing the assignments in class, this also gives them the opportunity to finish them up at home. If students do not complete assignments and the final quiz, this will result in a zero for their Spelling City grade that week.
The vocabulary studied on Spelling City will correlate with the current vocabulary we are learning in class. The schedule is located on the "Vocabulary" page of this website. Please let me know if you have any questions.
